An Expert Electrical Transformer Manufacturer
When ELSCO was founded in Cincinnati in 1912, it was a transformer repair company. In 1988, after more than seven decades of repairing other systems, we decided it was time to build our own.
We knew other manufacturers’ transformers intimately, with a thorough understanding of what worked for them, what didn’t, which materials held up and which parts were most likely to malfunction. We applied this knowledge and our years of experience to design and manufacture the most reliable dry type transformers we could imagine.
Now, more than 30 years later, we are still manufacturing transformers at our facility in Cincinnati, Ohio — making us one of the few transformer manufacturers in the U.S.A. providing high-quality copper-wound dry type transformers.
At ELSCO, we don’t trust automation to get the job done right. Automated manufacturing can produce poor-quality devices that are more likely to fail. That’s why every dry type transformer we produce is carefully handcrafted by our team of experts.
Our meticulous, hands-on approach to manufacturing, coupled with our industry-leading techniques, allows us to deliver long-lasting, well-constructed electrical transformers to all of our customers.
Dry Type Transformers Handmade in the U.S.A.
Constructing each transformer by hand has distinct advantages that make ELSCO an industry leader.
Because we don’t rely on automated manufacturing processes, we are in complete control of how each unit is made. We can be sure of the quality of every transformer that leaves our facility because our experienced team members have carefully put together all the parts of the transformers and thoroughly hand-checked and tested them to check for defects.
Manufacturing units by hand allows us to reduce the amount of waste produced in the fabrication process by using the exact amount of materials necessary for each build. In this way, we optimize the cost of each unit, giving us savings we can pass on to our customers.
We are also able to optimize the design of our transformers. While the size of our systems may vary based on the needs of our customers, we are able to ensure the space in each device is used efficiently by keeping our coils tight and well-wound.
Our catalog of hand-manufactured dry type transformers typically consists of 500 kilo-volt-amperes (kVA) to 2,500 kVA units. They are made with copper windings and Nomex insulation for the longest-lasting, safest and most efficient performance.
In addition to our in-stock dry type transformers, we offer clients the option to customize base units or request a completely custom system built to order for seamless integration into your existing enclosures. Since we already create each transformer by hand, customizations are easy to accommodate.
Your ELSCO engineers will work with you to determine your needs and build a customized unit that meets your electrical system requirements and objectives.
Features that can be customized include core and coil assemblies, high short-circuit strength designs, faraday electrostatic shields and more.
Also, because we manufacture our transformers in the U.S., we are able to offer fast shipping rates and can complete rush jobs in no time. With our 24-to-48-hour Quick Ship options, your transformer will be ready and out of our facility within 48 hours.
Excellence Across Industries
ELSCO electrical transformers are used in various industries across the U.S., including:
- Colleges and universities
- Correctional facilities
- Electrical supply houses
- Electrical contractors
- Hospitals and health care
In industrial fields like health care and hospitals, it’s important that power remains stable and constant to support the machines that keep people alive. For other industries, like colleges, universities, correctional facilities and beyond, a huge amount of power needs to be supplied and managed for operations to run smoothly.
Our hand-crafted transformer products are reliable and long-lasting to keep our clients’ operations running effectively and remain completely uninterrupted.
Combined with our attentive customer service, our high-quality transformers have earned us a top position as the trusted source for commercial and industrial clients looking for transformers they can depend on to maintain their substantial power needs.
Our Reputation for Reliability
All of our new dry type transformers are accompanied by a five-year warranty — a significant jump from the industry-standard one-year warranty most other manufacturers offer.
We are able to offer this extended warranty because we have a long-standing history of reliability. We have been manufacturing our dry type transformers since 1988, and in that time, we have encountered zero transformer failures or warranty issues due to workmanship, quality, design or materials.
At ELSCO, we strive to produce the most reliable dry type transformers we can to provide our customers with long-lasting quality and peace of mind that their power will remain uninterrupted for years to come.
We believe that poor quality is the number one cause of transformer failures, so we make sure all of our units are top-notch.
Our hand-manufacturing process allows us to ensure each product is well-constructed by expert engineers, all of whom have more than 20 years of experience in the transformer industry.
Our manufacturing teams employ thorough testing procedures along the way. In fact, every dry type transformer we produce is tested four times throughout the manufacturing process and once more after varnishing to check for functionality or defects.
In addition to repeated rigorous testing for quality assurance, our expectations are sky-high. We do our best to meet and exceed all industry standards for superlative products and services.
For example, in our final test after varnishing is complete, we determine the transformer’s power factor rating. Industry requirements state that transformers must rate at or below 1%, and most other manufacturers’ transformers rate right around there. ELSCO’s transformers consistently rate around 0.03%.
